Introducing the SACS History Heritage Trail

The SACS History Heritage Trail is a distinguished initiative developed by the SACS High School History Society. This visionary project began in 2019 when then-Chairman Christopher Breetzke proposed the creation of a heritage trail. The 2019/2020 committee undertook the challenging early work, and the project was subsequently carried forward by 2020/2021 Chairman Matthew Clark, ably supported by Vice-Chairman and 2021 Head Prefect Nicolas Anema.

In the later stages, Old Boy James Drummond (2020) ensured the successful delivery of the IT and technical components. We also acknowledge with respect the invaluable contribution of our Archivist and History Society facilitator, the late Old Boy Simon Perkin. Through their combined dedication, this significant undertaking has now been completed and represents a true magnum opus that greatly enriches our history and heritage.

We warmly invite you to explore the SACS History Heritage Trail, a remarkable journey that bridges our past with the present and brings our heritage to life.

This trail showcases SEVEN HERITAGE sites on campus. Each site has a QR code. Simply use your phone’s camera to scan the code, and you’ll dive into a world of history through pictures and audio.

The sites include:

THE HOFMEYR MEMORIAL HALL
THE MEMORIAL QUAD
THE DE VILLIERS FIELD AND THE WHITEFORD PAVILION
